ANY GIVEN SUNDAY was released in 1999 and stars Al Pacino as the thirty-year veteran head coach Tony D'Amato of the Miami Sharks (NFL would not let him endorse its teams). Its title is from a saying said by D'Amato that a team can win or lose on "any given Sunday".

In the film, the Miami Sharks are struggling to make the Associated Football Franchises of America (AFFA) playoffs and it follows the trials and tribulations both on and off the field between players and coaches.

Only 6 teams are seen in the film, with a scene in the film featuring the Miami Sharks's schedule and these other teams:

Colorado Blizzard, Houston Cattlemen, Kansas Twisters, Los Angeles Breakers, Maine Androids, New York Emperors, Oregon Pioneers, Orlando Crushers, Seattle Prospects, Texas Rattlers, Washington Lumbermen and Wisconsin Icemen.

D'Amato mentions that he is joining the expansion team Albuquerque Aztecs next season.
